Ashwagandha - A Superfood for Oily Skin

Ashwagandha - A Superfood for Oily Skin

Oily skin is a common skincare concern for folks that are trying to care for their skin. It is caused by the overproduction of sebum from the sebaceous glands. Sebum is an oily substance that mixes with lipids to coat and protect your skin. Excess sebum production can be caused by stress, diet, hormonal shifts, pollution in the environment, or incompatible skin care. Basically, your skin starts to overcompensate and over-protect itself, resulting in what looks like oily skin.

One of the best ways to manage sebum overproduction is to balance out and care for your skin’s moisture. Applying the best moisturizer for oily skin helps it to retain water and, thus, moisture. Moisturizers that contain Ashwagandha naturally prevent the secretion of oil and calms your skin, all without stripping your skin of its necessary moisture. By applying Ashwagandha moisturizer to your skin, your sebaceous glands will not launch into overproduction, your sebum levels will balance out, and your skin will not look so shiny and oily throughout the day.

Ashwagandha is a superfood and adaptogenic herb commonly used in Ayurveda, an ancient natural system of medicine from India. Ashwagandha Renewal, the best moisturizer for oily skin, naturally prevents the secretion of oil and sebum from the skin. It is rich in alkaloids and with anolides that can bring stressed skin back to a balanced and calm state. It also has exceptional anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties that help to heal the skin, soothe irritation, and protect the skin from pollutants, free radicals, and UV damage. All of these properties naturally protect the skin and help it recover from the stressors that can disrupt the balance of the natural processes in your skin and lead to excess oil and sebum.

Ashwagandha is a key ingredient that could be helpful in your oily skin journey. Regardless of the state of your skin, finding the right moisturizer to suit your skin type and behavior will help it maintain its balance and natural processes. Azuri’s Ashwagandha Renewal, the best moisturizer for combination skin, is the lightest crème in the Azuri Skincare line so it’s great for folks with oily skin or those who generally prefer a lighter feel to their moisturizers. Powerful ayurvedic botanicals easily absorb into the skin.  Adaptogenic Ashwagandha, Anantmool, Manjistha, pea extract, and Hyaluronic Acid create a healing, anti-aging effect that also helps with hyper-pigmentation. These ingredients in the Ashwagandha moisturizer help your skin retain moisture and balance sebum production so your skin looks and feels healthy.

Everyone has experienced dry and cracked hands at least once, if not many times, in their life. Dry skin can be caused by multiple factors, and as it gets worse and dryer, your skin will start to crack. Dry and cracking skin can be caused by environmental stressors, low humidity, irritation and inflammation, or skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. If you’re trying to heal your cracking skin, it can be helpful to first identify the cause in order to determine how most effectively treat the cracking and care for your skin.

However, generally speaking, the key to soothing and healing dry and cracking skin in the long term is to restore your skin barrier, soothe irritation and inflammation, and slow down water loss from the skin. Hydrated skin is skin that retains its moisture and a healthy skin barrier helps your skin retain that moisture.

To do this naturally, look for skin care products made with natural ingredients that support your skin’s health and balance its properties. Also look for skin care products that contain oils and butters that will help create a barrier on your skin and prevent water loss.

Every Azuri hand and body product contains the Azuri elixir, an ayurvedic blend of six herbs that includes Ashwagandha, Anantmool, Gudduchi, Calendula, Licorice and Manjistha. This proprietary blend combines water based and lipid-based extractions to get maximum nutritional benefits. This signature blend of herbs and botanicals supports skin health and functioning.

Ashwagandha and Gudduchi are adaptogenic herbs that help bring stressed and overworked skin back to its balanced state. Common skin stressors come from the environment, UV rays, and each everyday products like hand sanitizer. Anantmool, Calendula, and Licorice are incredible anti-inflammatory herbs. Anti-inflammatory products soothe irritation and redness, and help revive damaged skin tissue. Calendula, along with Manjistha, increase blood and oxygen flow to the skin, which helps your skin heal and protect itself. Together, these six powerhouse herbs protect the skin from stressors, soothe irritation, and help the skin heal itself. This helps restore your skin barrier so it can retain moisture and keep itself hydrates, regardless of the environmental conditions.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, meaning is draws water into the skin like a sponge. It also helps water bind to your skin cells. Along with the Azuri Elixir, it fortifies the skin’s natural barriers to help lock moisture in for an even more dramatic hydrating effect. Over time, this can help slow down the deterioration of this barrier and help protect and strengthen it.

The short answer is yes, even oily skin benefits from moisturizer. This may sound counterintuitive. You may be thinking, “Why would I put more oil or moisture on my already oily skin? Wouldn’t that just make it worse?” “How can I add a moisturizer to my luxury organic skincare routine for oily skin?”.

Oily skin is caused by the overproduction of sebum from the sebaceous glands. Sebum is an oily substance that mixes with lipids to coat and protect your skin. However, if you have an oily skin type, it’s important to find the right moisturizer for you. Hydration and moisture are different from oil. Healthy hydration of the skin is a result of healthy water retention in the skin. Oil-based creams can help you retain moisture in your skin because it keeps water from evaporating and drying out from your skin. However, if you have already oily skin, you don’t need to apply more oil. Instead, you need a cream that will help store hydration in the top layers of your skin. Look for water-based face creams or products that claim to have humectant or occlusive properties. These products will aid in the moisture retention in your skin without adding unnecessary oils.

So, yes, even your oily skin needs moisturizer. But the key to keeping this skin comfortable and healthy is to use a moisturizer that is tailored to oily skin. Azuri’s Ashwagandha Renewal, the best moisturizer for combination skin, is the lightest crème in the Azuri Skincare line so it’s great for folks with oily skin or those who generally prefer a lighter feel to their moisturizers. Why You Should Choose Natural Skincare: Reason 4: Ancient and Traditional Practices

Why You Should Choose Natural Skincare: Reason 4: Ancient and Traditional Practices

natural skin care products

Each of our natural skin care products at Azuri is inspired and informed by the traditional practices of Ayurveda and ancient African skincare. Both of these practices have existed for centuries and have been developed based on the available plant botanicals from those areas.

Ayurveda is one of the earliest known forms of medicine and body care in the world. Some studies and research show Ayurveda to be at least 3,000 years old. Ayurveda is rooted in the idea that all illnesses or problems originate from an imbalance in the body. There are three types of health types, or doshas, that Ayurveda talks about: pitta, vata, and kapha. These doshas are tied to the elements: wind, water, earth, fire, and space. Pitta is tied to fire, vata is tied to wind, and kapha is tied to earth and water. Ayurveda’s philosophy is to treat the cause of common illnesses and problems by the rebalancing of these doshas and elements rather treating the symptoms, which is typical of Western medicine. In Ayurvedic skincare, the idea is the same – rebalancing the skin’s qualities so it functions healthily.

Traditional African skincare has also been around for centuries. Local African skincare practices were developed based on the local plant botanicals. Africa is typically split into three biological communities: the subtropical desert, tropical savanna, and tropical forest. Each provide a rich ecological environment full of beautiful and powerful plants that can provide incredible benefits to the skin and body. For example, Shea butter is native to North and West Africa and is an incredibly effective, popular and the best moisturizer for oily skin. However, the prevalent moisturizer in East Africa is Nilotica butter. Some studies show that Nilotica butter is a more effective moisturizer than Shea butter but both are popular and (effective). The collection of these botanicals is done through native farming practices or wild harvesting. These practices protect and preserve the earth’s resources while still taking advantage of their (powerful benefits).

Azuri seeks to use the knowledge of ancient practices of both India’s Ayurveda and Africa to create modern, luxury organic skincare. We also seek to support the folks native to this area who discovered how to harvest and sustainably grow these botanicals that we benefit from today. All of our ingredients used in our natural skin care products are wild-harvested and directly support local women’s empowerment and livelihood.
