Why We Do It

I started Azuri because I wanted to return to my roots. I grew up in a household that emphasized holistic wellness and made everything at home. My father taught me yoga and the importance of only consuming fresh and natural ingredients and my mother made everything at home, from yogurt to shampoo to dresses. Until I left my childhood home, I had never thought about buying things like lotion because we had always made our own at home. This is what we had done for hundreds of years, it was part of our tradition.

But I became very disconnected from this tradition when I moved to America. I traded homemade and natural for convenience and forgot what it was like to know exactly what I was putting in and on my body. This was okay for a while, but I always felt something was missing. It took me a long time to realize that my body yearned for a return to my upbringing. A return to the teachings of my culture, which emphasized natural and homemade items made from only the purest of ingredients. But, as I began my research, I found how difficult it was to find truly natural products that actually worked. And so I began a wellness journey that led me here, to Azuri.

I want to give people like me the chance to enjoy luxury natural skincare. People who have been searching for clean products that will actually do what they advertise. People who want to be able to enjoy natural skincare without having to make it themselves. People who are looking for luxury skincare that is clean and safe to use forever. Azuri is for people who also want to return to their roots and enjoy everything that our Earth has to offer.

Why Natural Skincare Matters

Skin is the largest organ in your body. While it does serve as a protective barrier, it is not impervious to the things you put on your skin. Rather, it absorbs much of what you apply to it. You should be treating your skin the same way you treat your body. That means, if you are what you eat, then you are also what you put on your skin.

Popular skincare products from well-known brands are not as good for you as you think. These traditional products are full of chemical-ridden ingredients. In Canada, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned hundreds of harmful skincare ingredients. In the EU, over 1,300 harmful skincare ingredients have been banned by the EU Customs Regulation. However, in the United States, the FDA has only prohibited 11 ingredients. A common ingredient used in popular skincare products is formaldehyde, a known carcinogen and chemical used in human embalming to keep bodies from decomposing. According to the Food and Drug Administration, 1 in 5 skincare products contain formaldehyde, but the FDA still does not restrict its use. Many harmful chemicals also have different names, making it difficult to keep track of which of your skincare brands and products are harboring these harmful ingredients.

This is why natural skincare matters. The premise of natural skincare is holistically taking care of your body. It involves caring for your skin the same way you care for the rest of your body – not just using products that work, but also considering what is going to be good for you in the long run. At Azuri, we use plant-derived ingredients that are not only effective but are also good for your holistic health. Ingredients like marula and shea butter have been utilized and revered for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine as well as skincare by ancient communities that understood the powers of plant-derived ingredients. Our products and ingredients are backed by thousands of years of history and science.
